IMPROVEMENT OF SWELLING SOIL PROPERTIES USING CRUSHED GLASS WASTES AND LIME

ABSTRACT: Expansive soil is a soil that has large changes in volume when there is a change in its water content, and it is found in many areas in Egyptian valleys. This research aims to study the effect of using locally low cost materials such as crushed glass wastes and lime to improve the engineering properties of expansive soil. The expansive soil that has been studied is taken from Al-Kawamil city (New Sohag city), Sohag region is considered unsuitable soil for civil engineering project such as roads and buildings, as it was classified according to the AASHTO classification A-7-6.  The percentage of soft materials passing through sieve No. 200 (0.075 mm) was more than 90%. This soil was treated with different ratios of crushed glass wastes (0-5-10-15-20)% by weight , as well as the soil was treated with different ratios of lime (0-2-4-6-8)% by weight. Atterberg limits (liquid limit, plastic limit and plasticity index), standard proctor test (optimum moisture content, maximum dry density) and swelling test were carried out. The results shown an improvement in the engineering properties of the expansive soil such as Atterberg limits and swelling pressure by increasing added percentage. This helps to make use of the local materials available at low cost, make  the environment clean from glass wastes and recycle these wastes so they can utilized at the  environmental,  economical, and engineering levels. This matches the sustainable development strategy of  Egypt's vision 2030 in both the environmental and economical dimensions.

Physicochemical Properties of Blended Gasoline Samples Produced from Khartoum Refinery in Sudan

AbstractThe physical and chemical properties of gasoline samples produced after Blending (BG) were studied; the samples (Tank1, Tank2, Tank3, and Tank4) were taken from Khartoum refinery (RFCC unit) in Sudan. Gasoline samples were tested according to the American society for testing and materials (ASTM), Tests included distillation , sulfur content, density, vapor pressure, oxidation stability , cupper strip corrosion, gum existence, lead content, and octane number determination by Cooperative Fuels Research )CFR engine(.Results obtained revealed that, the Physicochemical properties of BG samples agreed well within the limits assigned by ASTM and Khartoum refinery, except the motor octane number (MON) which was found to be 87, 87.9, 87.5 and 87.7 for T1, T2,T3 and T4 respectively, these values were found  lower to be using as fuels of high quality internal combustion engine.

Abstract: Back ground:Recently miRNAs found as an important cancer therapy targets in innate immunity. Therefore these molecules have important role in the processing of many biological responses, such as cell proliferation, apoptosis, and stress responsiveness. MiRNAs expression significantly change on tumor cells; some miRNAs that negatively regulates oncoproteins. These miRNAs are known as tumor suppressor miRNA and oncogenic miRNA. MiRNAs have major relation with damage and pathogen associated molecular patterns by innate immunity signaling pathways such as toll like receptors. Toll like receptors discovered in drosophila. Toll like receptors can induce cytokines in inflammation and cancer. High Mobility Groups are danger proteins which can involve in damage associated molecular pattern and manage with Micro RNAs. The aim of this review is finding the relation of Melanoma miRNAs with innate immune system signaling such as toll like receptors and the proteins such as high mobility group box 1.

PREVALENCE OF INTESTINAL PARASITES ON SELECTED FRUITS SOLD IN SOME MAJOR MARKETS IN IBADAN METROPOLIS, NIGERIA.

Abstract: The Prevalence of intestinal parasites on fruits sold in markets around Ibadan Metropolis was studied. Four different types of fruits were sampled from four markets ((Oje, Bodija, Oja- oba and Erunmu market. A total of 400 samples were examined for intestinal parasites using sedimentation method, out of which 150 (37.5 %) were positive for intestinal parasites which Pineapple recorded the highest contamination 51 (51%) while water melon 26(26%).  recorded the least contamination microscopically. Result from this research shows high contamination levels of fruits with intestinal parasites from four different markets in Ibadan, indicating presence of a great risk of acquiring and transmitting intestinal parasitic infections by eating improperly washed fruits.

Phytoremediation potential of macrophytes of urban water bodies in Central India: A case study

ABSTRACTA field sampling based study was conducted to analyze the water quality, heavy metals and their bio-concentration and bio-accumulation in root and shoot portion of naturally growing vegetation in the urban lake - Laxmi Tal, receiving domestic sewage in Jhansi city in Central India. Water quality and heavy metal concentration was found within prescribed limit as per Indian standards IS-2296 “D”. BCF (bio-concentration factor) was assessed to be more than one and concluded the plant Typha angustifolia and Echhornia crassipus as an accumulator plant. The translocation factor study revealed that translocation of all metal under study was not significant except Ni. Present study validated that Typha angustifolia and Echhornia crassipus could be used for bio-remediation purpose in case of urban water bodies receiving varying amount of domestic waste waters which have relatively limited concentrations of toxic metals.

Micro-Electromechanical System Based Electronic Capsules (MEMS) Aimed At Optimizing Drug Delivery To The Human Body

Abstract: In light of rapid advances in medical technology, we have witnessed significant transformation in drug/medication delivery mechanisms as well as its efficiency in recent years. The utilization of Micro-Electromechanical System (MEMS) has achieved and accomplished valuable success in optimizing treatment as well as administrating medication. Specifically, there has been fewer side effects, effective medication delivery, ease of use, lower cost as well as patient satisfaction. Therefore, in this study, with the objective of becoming familiarized with this treatment system, we have endeavored to analyze capsules based on electromechanical technology. Moreover, the review approach and the library method were utilized. The study’s findings revealed that by using this system, drugs can be effectively administered at arbitrary rates and well-controlled by microfluidic platforms via integration, planting, localization, automation and precise control of various parameters. Essentially, this micro-device can efficiently reach all the target areas. Accordingly, these features make repeatable/reproducible and on-demand drug delivery possible. Hence, the performance of all of them can be viewed as positive as well as a suitable alternative in treatment and administrating medication to a specific area of the body.

A critical review on Mentha piperita extract regenerative potential on peripheral nerve regeneration

Abstract: Mentha piperita L. (peppermint) is a hybrid of M. spicata and M. aquatica. The list of benefits and uses of peppermint as a folk remedy or alternative medical therapy include biliary maladies, dyspepsia, enteritis, flatulence, gastritis, intestinal colic, and spasms of the bile duct, gallbladder, or gastrointestinal (GI) tract. As fatty acids, there have been found palmitic, linoleic, and linolenic acids. The main components identified in the volatile oil of peppermint are menthol (33–60%), menthone (15–32%), isomenthone (2–8%), 1,8-cineole (eucalyptol) (5–13%), menthyl acetate (2–11%), menthofuran (1–10%), limonene (1–7%), β-myrcene (0.1–1.7%), β-caryophyllene (2–4%), pulegone (0.5–1.6%), and carvone (1%). The fresh leaves contain 1.2–3.9% (v/w) of essential oil, while the dried leaves is reported to contain only 21% of the original oil. In vitro and in vivo pharmacological studies have proved multiple therapeutic effects, which are mentioned as follows: antioxidant capacity (radical scavenging capacity being higher than that of M. aquatica or M. longifolia), antitumor activity on different cell lines, antiallergenic activity, antiviral activity with significant results on herpes simplex viruses (HSV-1 and HSV-2) and against human immunodeficiency virus-1 (HIV-1), antibacterial activity against different bacterial strains, including Gram-positive cocci and rods and Gram-negative rods (e.g., S. aureusSalmonella enteritidisShigella sonnei, some strains of E. coliHeli cobacter pyloriHaemophilus influenzaeStreptococcus pneumoniaeStreptococcus pyogenes, and many other pathogens), modulatory effects on hepatic and renal functions, nervous system actions as analgesic and local anesthetic, and anti-inflammatory actions. Peripheral nerve injuries (PNI) cause damage to nerve and sensory or motor function is lost. The most common reasons for PNI are fall, penetrating trauma, industrial and automobile accident. The symptoms of peripheral nerve injury range from slight paranesthesia, pain and weakness or complete paralysis of muscle. PNI is a very complex injury that involves all the components of peripheral nervous system. In this review, the effect of Mentha piperita on nerve regeneration and functional recovery of peripheral nerves were reported. The Mentha piperita (MP) treated group showed more functional recovery and peripheral nerve regeneration. Mentha piperita might be used as a drug in treatment of patient with peripheral problems. It can play a role to free world from socio-economic burden that is caused by the post-operative problems.
