Bluetongue disease in small ruminants in Palestine: Epidemiological study of the period 2005-2019

Abstract: Small ruminant’s livestock industry provides for a major source of livelihood for many people worldwide, particularly the rural poor in developing countries. Bluetongue (BT) is a reportable infectious non-contagious disease of the small ruminant that has a considerable socioeconomic importance in the small ruminants in Palestine. The objective of this study was to investigate the epidemiological analysis of Bluetongue disease within small ruminants in Palestine over 14 years 2005 – 2019. The study indicated that BT is enzootic in Palestine, reported started from 2009-2019. A total of 273 outbreaks, 1628 cases, and 351 deaths were reported. The average incidence rate was 5.5%, and the average mortality rate of 1.6%. The case fatality rate ranged from 0.0- 39.29 with an average of 20.2%. No vaccination practice was applied in Palestine. Temporal analysis obtained that BT is more endemic in the low-temperature season between September and December, with a higher peak in November, displaying `overwintering` of BTV in Palestine. At least five BTV serotypes (BTV-2, BTV-4, BTV-5, BTV-6, and BTV-8) were continuously present in Palestine. Multiple serotypes were recorded in the same outbreak period increases the risk for re-assortment of individual BTV gene segments. The appropriate data recording, improving owner awareness, use of the BTV, and a systematic disease monitoring program are required to control the spread of the disease.

The effect of Oyster mushroom (Pleurotus ostreatus) as functional food on yogurt quality

Abstract: Oyster mushrooms as health promoter and environmental restorer are gaining more importance during the past two decades. Owing to the high consumption rate of dairy products such as yogurt, fortification of these products will effectively reduce or prevent diseases associated with nutritional deficiencies. Mushrooms are also considered as functional foods as they elicit their positive effect on human being in several ways. In the current study, different concentrations of dehydrated mushroom powder (DMP; 0.05, 0.1 and 0.2%) were adjunct during yoghurt production. Its property is affected like its physiochemical, nutritional, rheological and sensorial values during 0, 7 and 15 days of storage at 4C. It was noticed that, the presence of fibre was markedly noted as increased with the mushroom ratios increased. The yoghurt with 0.2% DMP appeared to have significant impact on yoghurt viscosity (7805, 7896 and 7965 mPs during the storage time).  In terms of important minerals in tested yoghurt; Calcium was observed in moderate concentrations at zero time with such DMP ratios (0.05, 0.1 and 0.2%, 1254.0877, 1348.9505, and 1438.6377 mg/kg, respectively). Zn and Fe are considered as micronutrients, they found as the highest concentrations in sample 6 (30.3651 and 31.471 mg/kg, respectively). The present investigation revealed that Valine (3.882 mg/100g in sample 3) was the major essential amino acid in casein. While, for non-essential amino acids: Alanine content was found to be highest in sample 2 (5.223mg/100g) followed by glutamic and proline in samples 8 and 6 (3.899 and 2.98 mg/100g, respectively). The antioxidants vitamins (C and E ) were abundantly found in samples 3 and 4 as  537.0350 18.134 mg/kg, respectively. Rheological and sensorial results indicated that the incorporated yoghurt with 0.1% DMP showed a values of hardness, cohesiveness and gumminess higher than control yogurt caused a more compact texture and so helped to improve the acceptability properties of yogurt. As conclusion, the addition of DMP to yoghurt affect significantly the functional yoghurt properties.

A New Hybrid Particle Swarm Optimization-Differential Evolution Algorithm

Abstract: Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) is one of the population-based heuristic searching algorithms. PSO has good ability of getting global optimization. However, there are some weaknesses such as, low convergence accuracy and speed, similar to other Evolutionary Algorithms (EA). Due to this, a large number of approaches have been developed to improve its performance in recent years, including such changes as hybrid models. In this paper we present a hybrid optimization method based on Particle Swarm Optimization and Differential Evolution. Under this method, we enhance the exploration ability of the particle, by using DE abilities at each iteration step to get best solution. The proposed method is assessed using a set of multimodal functions and real life problems benchmarks.

Y-chromosomal microdeletions of the Azoospermia Factor (AZF) region in infertile men in IRAN

Abstract: To assess for the first time the occurrence of Y chromosomal microdeletions of the Azoospermia Factor c (AZFc) region in Iranian men and to correlate them with clinical parameters. Materials and Methods: In a retrospective study, we analyzed 100 infertile men and 100 controls with normal spermatogenesis. AZFa, AZFb, AZFc region were analyzed by multiplex polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Results: No AZFa, AZFb or AZFc deletions were found in the control group. Nine patients in the group of infertile men were found to have deletions as following: two AZFb, six AZFc, and one AZFab. The relative distribution of these patterns was significantly different compared with that found in the German population. Extension analysis confirmed that the deletions occurred according to the current pathogenic model. Conclusions: Our results suggest that the frequency of Y chromosome AZF microdeletions is elevated in individuals with severe spermatogenic failure.

Evaluation of Sport Spaces in Iranian Medical Science Universities

Abstract: Because of its crucial role in man’sphysical and mental fitness, physical education is considered to be of great importance, especially in the youth. This survey was conducted with the aim of investigating the sport spaces of Iranian Medical Science Universities (SSIMD). The necessary data were collected from forty-two Medical Science Universities affiliated with the Iranian Ministry of Health and Medical Education through valid questionnaire, and further analysed by deductive methods. This study covered 110590 students, 71159 of which were girls. Results of the survey revealed the per capita sport places (PCSP) to be 2.21 m2. Golestan University and Shahrekord University had the lowest (5.35 m2) and the highest PCSP (5.35 m2) among Iranian Medical Science Universities respectively. According to this study, the total surface area of sport places for all Medical Science Universities was 238776 m2. Results of this research point out that the level of PCSP for Iranian Medical Science Universities is not adequate, especially for girls, and it is concluded that certain plans are required for the development of such spaces.

Dose-response modeling using MTT assay: a short review

Abstract: MTT assay is widely used to determine the response of cells to ionizing radiation. This method has several advantages such as relative low cost, short time to assess the samples and the possibility of acquiring the results semi-automatically. However, for this method, there are some restrictions/limitations and some important factors that should be considered. This paper is focused to discuss a standard procedure in using MTT assay for calculating the cell survival after irradiation.

Testing of Surface Spoilage Bacteria in Meats by Application of Woolcool® Packaging

Abstract: Woolcool® is an ecofriendly type of packaging, made of 100% pure sheep’s wool, hygienically sealed in recyclable foodgrade wrap. Due to its complex physical and chemical composition, wool can also help control humidity and reduce condensation. Given these properties, the potential of wool to be used as packaging liners for the transport of meat is of interest. The present study assessed the microbiological quality of meat packaged and stored at room temperature for 40 h in conventional EPS (expanded polystyrene) boxes and cardboard boxes lined with Woolcool® using standard, approved culturing techniques. It also sampled empty boxes stored under the same conditions. The findings suggest that the product may have potential market value as packaging liners for transporting meat, and possibly other food products. Further research is needed to allow better generalisation to real-world conditions, and understanding of how these packaging liners could maintain food quality on a larger scale. [Lahmer R. Correlation analysis for yield and yield contributing traits in tomato (Solanum lycopersicon L.)

Abstract: Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.) is an important vegetable in the horticultural industry worldwide.  The present research work was conducted to examine correlation of yield related traits of tomato (Solonum lycopersicum L.). The experiment was conducted at the experimental field of the department of Plant Breeding and Genetics, University of Agriculture, Faisalabad. Eight genotypes (PB-LO-2752, LO-2840, LO-2875, LO-3886, Stakeless, Pioneer 2761, Wheatleys Frost Resistant and Veepick) was grown in Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replications. Standard agronomic and plant protection practices were applied. The data of various yield related traits, plant height, number of branches per plant, fruit clusters per plant, number of fruits per cluster, fruit yield per plant, fruit weight, fruit shape, fruit length, fruit width and number of lobes in a fruit were collected. Analysis of variance resulted highly significant differences between all traits. Analysis of variance revealed highly significant differences among all the traits. Plant height showed highly positive correlation with number of branches, clusters per plant, fruit weight and number of lobes in a fruit. A highly positive correlation was observed for number of branches per plant with fruit clusters per plant, fruits per cluster, fruit weight, fruit shape and number of lobes.  Fruit clusters per plant had a positive correlation with fruits per cluster, fruit weight, fruit shape, fruit length and number of lobes. A highly significant correlation was observed for number of fruits per cluster with fruit yield per plant, fruit weight, fruit shape and number of lobes. Fruit yield per plant showed highly significant and positive correlation with fruit weight and number of lobes. Correlation of fruit weight with fruit length was positive and highly significant while fruit weight, fruit shape and number of lobes express significant association. There was negative and highly significant association was found among fruit shape and number of lobes. Fruit length and width had negative correlation with fruit width and number of lobes respectively.

Abstract: Continuing to succeed is the dream of companies. Amazon was among the finest institutions operating in e-commerce. Its founder had a vision that propelled the firm to the top of the international online business rankings. In this research, the SWOT and PESTEL analysis have been discussed to clarify how its founder exploited the available opportunities and reduced the problems to become an essential part of human life. Amazon developed effective plans to follow its customer desires and long-term strategies that helped in achieving high profits despite all obstacles. Also, the types of IT system, AI, and Six Sigma adapted by Amazon have been discussed in detail. Finally, there are some essential recommendations for Amazon for continue to succeed.
