Abstract: In the current study, we tried to evaluate the levels the T-helper-1 (TH-1) cytokine IFN-gamma (IFN- γ) and the TH2 cytokines (IL-4, IL-10 and IL-13) in peripheral blood mononuclear cell culture (PBMC) following in vitro stimulation with Schistosoma soluble egg antigen (SEA) and in the serum of patients infected with S. mansoni and their relation to hepatic fibrosis induced by S. mansoni. Thirty-one S. mansoni infected individuals with and without liver fibrosis were analyzed for cytokine profiles. According to ultrasound evaluation of liver fibrosis, our study subjects were classified into Group 0, Group I, Group II, and Group III. Cytokines were measured in S. mansoni Soluble egg antigens (SEAs) stimulated whole blood culture supernatants and serum using commercial kits. Subjects in the hepatic fibrosis groups showed significant increase in IFN- γ, IL-10, and IL-13 (p<0.05) in comparison to non-fibrotic group. On the other hand, IL-4 was non-significantly elevated in the fibrosis group in comparison to the nonfibrotic group (p >0.05). Our results suggest that high IL-13 associated with development of Schistosoma mansoni induced liver fibrosis.

Abstract: Aim: To evaluate the efficacy of both the classical and purse-string double layer uterine closure post cesarean operation with respect to short term outcomes. Methods: Women were divided randomly to two groups, the study group (n=44), the double-layer purse string uterine closure group and the control group (n=44), classical double layer uterine closure group. A comprehensive transvaginal ultrasound examination was performed for all subjects post cesarean section, the comparison was done for a short time (6 weeks), where a wedge shaped uterine incision scar was accepted as uterine scar fault and documented. RESULTS: 30% of all visible scar defects was recorded in the study group, whereas, it reached 40% in control group (P < 0.001, χ(2) = 15.42) as detected by ultrasonography. A non-significant differences was recorded between the two groups with respect to operation time, preoperative and postoperative hemoglobin, demographic data and hospitalization time. Conclusion: With the double layer purse string uterine closure method, along short term observation, shorter in the length of uterine incision, and lower in the incidence of uterine scar defect.

Abstract: Conservation of water supplies became very important as the demand increases. Water loss due to seepage from open channels represents one of the major components of water loss. Seepage occurs from open channels to the adjacent land due to the difference in water head between the water levels in the channels and the water table at the adjacent land. The aim of this study is to verify Hydrus software package with analog solutions like Bouwer’s approach and to use Hydrus to estimate seepage from canals for many cases that cannot be solved by Bouwer’s approach. Synthetic realizations were generated using Hydrus. Artificial neural networks (ANNs) were trained and verified using previous realizations to estimate seepage from canals for two cases. The results showed that ANN scan estimate the seepage from canals simply, easily, and in no time.

Abstract: A longitudinal descriptive study was performed for the surveillance of pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) cases registered daily within one year at health centers of Al Taif province, Saudi Arabia, using different diagnostic tools. To determine the epidemiology of TB and the performance of diagnostic methods used to confirm cases among outpatient admissions, an initiative for effective control. Physicians screened patients for suspected TB cases (n=7153) and were subjected to one of numerous laboratory tests for confirmation. Positive TB diagnoses were considered confirmed cases (10.3%, n=744). Proportions revealed by the various tests are: direct smear (DS; 10.9%, n=3234), culture on Lowenstein-Jensen (LJ; 7.2%, n=1137), Mycobacteria growth indicator tube (MGIT; 10.3%, n=1512), direct and cultured sputum PCR (10.3%, n=1237) and (45.5%, n=33), respectively. The present screening studies concluded that sophisticated diagnostic tools, such as cultured TB PCR displayed highly sensitive test outcome, indicating that sputum culturing eliminated the obstacles of paucibacillary which accounted for low TB confirmed rate, and in combination with PCR amplification, generated a sensitivity and specificity profile with a high percentage of positive TB detection. Thus, the technique presents a useful tool for screening both early-stage and latency to improve effectiveness of TB control.

Abstract: Calotropis procera L. is a perennial adapted plant distributed in areas of deserts of south Asia. Stage of Calotropis procera L. seeds germination is sensitive to drought stress. Seed coating with water absorbent material is a method for to increase the germination rate. The objective of this study was identifying Using of organic water absorbent material for increase the germination rate of calotropis procera L. seeds in drought stress. Factorial experiment in completely randomized design was with five levels of organic material (wheat residue, canola residue, sunflower residue, vermin compost and peat mass) and extract with four levels (0, 25, 50, 100 % by volume) the result showed that canola residue, wheat residue and wheat residue had Absorbed the most of the water in saturation mode respectively, but vermicompost and peat mass hold water longer than others. vermicompost and peat mass and canolaresidue showed the least of allelopathy effect. All seedling characteristics (germination percentage, germination rate, root length, shoot length, Lateral roots number and seedling weight) decreased with an increase in extract concentrations. Characters decline with an increase vermicompost and peat mass in extract with less steep than others. So canola residue, vermicompost and peat mass were the best organic material for calotropis procera L. seeds coating. Keywords: Calotropis procera L., coating, seed germination, organic material.

Abstract: Both genetic and environmental causes are involved in developing of coronary artery disease (CAD), but there is a notable controversy about the environmental and genetic factors that play a role in the pathogenesis of CAD. The value of each individual risk factor on CAD and the incidence of coronary artery disease in identical twins are indefinite. To find out genetic mechanisms of coronary heart disease, the assessment of twins study may help us. On the other hand the natural history of coronary artery disease in an asymptomatic twin with a symptomatic counterpart is undistinguishable. We present a case report about different coronary angiographic findings on an Iranian identical Lady Twin with different clinical outcome in access to incidence of CAD in twins. Based on our patient and the information on other patients, the asymptomatic twins of symptomatic counterparts need aggressive assessment and management for occult coronary artery disease.

Abstract: Background: First-trimester ultrasound measurements of crown–rump length (CRL) have also been demonstrated to be accurate predictors of birth weight; fetal growth impairment begins in the first trimester and had been shown to result in adverse pregnancy outcomes. Aim of the work: was to evaluate the correlation between first trimester CRL and macrosomia at birth. Patients and Methods: This was a prospective study included 152 pregnant women with gestational age of first trimester divided into 2 groups according to ultrasound measurement of Crown-rump length and the association between CRL and macrosomia at birth was recorded and statistically analyzed. Results: There were statistical significant correlation between Actual birth weight and first trimester Crown rump length where (0.288, p-value= 0.0002). Conclusion and recommendation: The result of the present study showed if CRL more than expected, birth weight will be more than normal, so measurement of first trimester CRL is useful as a predictor of birth weight.

Abstract: Background: Different conditions of the oral cavity have been developed in association with pregnancy such as gingivitis and periodontitis. These conditions are mainly related to the elevated sex hormones, in addition to the presence of predisposing factors of the oral cavity such as plaque, calculus and bacteria. Aim: To investigate the alterations of the gingival tissue and the difference in the expression of Ki-67 between pregnant and non-pregnant rats as an indication of cell proliferation. Material and Methods: Rats were divided into two groups, the control (non-pregnant) and pregnancy groups. They were sacrificed at day 19 of gestation (late pregnancy) and the buccal gingival tissue at the mandibular molar regions was carefully dissected and processed for histological and immunohistochemical evaluation of Ki-67. Results: The gingival tissue of pregnant rats showed marked increase in thickness, elongation of epithelial ridges, and proliferation of cells of the basal layer. The stratum spinosum cells presented lightly stained cytoplasm, signs of hydropic degeneration and had pyknotic nuclei. Binucleated cells were present in the stratum spinosum and stratum granulosum. The blood vessels of the lamina propria were markedly dilated with extravasated RBCs. The number of Ki-67 positive cells were significantly increased in pregnancy group compared to the control. Conclusion: The elevated sex hormones during pregnancy has an obvious impact on the gingival epithelium and increase the proliferative activity of epithelial cells even in absence of other initiating factors such as plaque and calculus.

Abstract: Heat stress was found to induce a serious of psychological and structural dysfunction in various organs and systems of the body. Aim: To characterize the effects of heat exposure on the structure of the dorsal surface of the rats’ tongue. The effects were evaluated by histological, immunohistochemical and scanning electron microscopic examinations. Material and Methods: A model of heat stress was performed by exposing the rats to hot temperature of (39°C to 41°C) for a period of 5 days. The rats’ tongue were excised and processed for histological, immunohistochemical and scanning electron microscopic examination. Results: H & E stained sections of heat stress group revealed clear distortion of the filiform papillae where the papillae appeared apparently short. Focal areas of flattened epithelial surface with complete loss of the lingual papillae were seen. The epithelial cells demonstrated signs of cellular degeneration, pyknosis and necrosis. A moderate to strong nuclear BAX expression was detected in tongue of rats exposed to heat indicating apoptosis. With Scanning Electron Microscopic examination, distortion of the filiform and fungiform papillae of the heat stress rats were noticed. The filiform papillae were irregularly oriented and most of them had desquamated keratinized epithelial covering. Conclusion: Heat exposure induced obvious morphological and structural alterations of the dorsal surface of rats’ tongue.
